VOTE FOR THE PLANET

KINGSTON – May 26, 2004 – Canadians hopeful about our role in a healthy and sustainable world now have a central place to learn, communicate and organize for the upcoming federal election.

PlanetVote Canada today announced the launch of its website, portal and online forum.

The site serves as a gateway to election news, information, organizations and resources. In addition, it highlights environmental, peace and social issues in the context of the election.

“Polls are saying that environment is not the very first thing on voters’ minds”, says PlanetVote Coordinator, Peter Blanchard. “But we know it’s important to them. PlanetVote can help individuals and organizations to act on these concerns”.

The site includes an extensive directory of links, news, announcements, how to’s, a discussion forum, and an e-mail list.

PlanetVote’s approach is summed up by its motto, a quote from American activist Abbey Hoffman. “Democracy is not something you believe in or a place to hang your hat, but it’s something you do. You participate. If you stop doing it, democracy crumbles.”
